I’ve been reminded lately of the beauty of the Serenity Prayer, and how important it is to find a balance between surrender and being proactive. We so often swing to extremes. Surrender can turn into complacency and entitlement, and being proactive can turn into perfectionism and a need for control. So how do we find balance?
There is no easy answer, because life’s circumstances change from one moment to the next. And we change! Our needs change, the particulars of our lives change, we age, and we grow. But one thing that remains constant is the “now”, the eternal constant now. And if we can be really present and mindful in the here and now, we can hopefully do what is required in any given moment.
It’s a delicate dance. It’s a conversation filled with questions. It’s a mystery. It’s a beautiful adventure.
Blessings,
Tara
Serenity Prayer
God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
