Love trumps doctrine every time. -Vincent Harding
My home (with two parents, three teenagers and a dog) feels like a microcosm of the macrocosm of our post-election environment—lots of ideas and opinions being expressed with a great deal of righteous indignation and very little love. When we shout statistics at each other, when we demand the right to be heard, when we are convinced that our perspective is more valid or ethical or worthy, then real communication stops and resentment builds. This has to stop. I’m not telling anyone what to feel or what to do. There is enough of that going around. Feel what you feel and do what you’ve got to do. But, I am saying that this has to stop with me. As the song goes: “Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.”
Couldn’t agree more – I am just totally avoiding the conversation with my younger one. However, we’ve seen so much insanity on both sides these days, that I just want to scream “Stop”, “Breathe”, “Share the love”. Thanks for your post!

I agree with your post. Let it begin with me too. I don’t know what desperation drove so many millions of American to vote the way they did. But the post-election decisiveness stops with me – listen, smile, validate and love.
