Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances.” –Victor Frankl
Tomorrow Americans will celebrate Thanksgiving Day, and while for many it is a day of celebration and gathering together with loved ones, it can also be a day tinged with sadness and loss. We should never deny our experiences or feelings. At the same time, we can, as Victor Frankl — famous writer and Holocaust survivor — stated, choose our attitude and reaction toward life’s circumstances. We can, in the midst of our joy and plentitude, share what we have, and, even while holding our pain, we can think of others’ suffering and be gentle and loving with ourselves and them. I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving.
