In a recent interview, poet Ada Limon was asked how she feels about writing so vulnerability. She answered, that is where the conversation begins.
How beautifully stated. Because conversations flow. They entertain differing perspectives, explore with curiosity, question and challenge.
Yet, all too often, I have avoided these internal conversations, for fear that their darkness would swallow me whole! But, it is impossible to silence oneself forever. Our deepest soul’s longing is to be heard. All the sorrow, all the joy, all the fear, all the beauty.
And we can hold it all. Just like we can have difficult conversations, alongside lighthearted conversations. I think the key is being gentle with ourselves, to engage with ourselves. Be loving. And patient.
And remind ourselves that life is filled with so many types of conversations. All of them alive, moving us to new and beautiful places within. Creative insights. Profound understanding.
And we begin with a tender and vulnerable heart…
