About fifteen years ago, a friend told me that, like a cat, I’d had nine lives. She was referring to the numerous eclectic experiences I’d had throughout my life: bible study leader, Jewish mother, Sufi, artist, poet, feminist academic, and homemaker. But as I look at my life now, I’m not quite sure I agree with her. Woven together, these “ill-matched threads” of my life tell the story of a woman’s search for deeper meaning and purpose. It just took me until my 40s to fully comprehend the continuity of my experience.
